I want to write a quick tribure to a truly fine American day:
In the morning I boarded the F train with some pals to go to the Coney Island Hot Dog Eating Contest! It was my second year at the contest and it did not dissapoint. Joey Chestnut is a true American hero!!!
Then I hung out for a while on the Coney Island beach, caught some rays and enjoyed the company of the most diverse crowd of New Yorkers. All walks of life were enjoying the sun on the 4th of July!

After the beach I went back to Manhattan and went for a bike ride with two friends along the Hudson River bike path. Down by Battary park I heard Sonic Youth, who was playing a free show for the 4th. When we got up close they were playing Silver Rocket, just three songs into the set, and we stayed for the whole thing. They are an amazing live band, who I saw much closer last summer at McCarren pool on the Daydream nation tour. Kim Gordon is so unbelievably hot. As my friend Jared put it, ” I would like some more, more, more, more.” She moves like a vixen. Check out some shitty footage of her moves in a clip from Jams Run Free:
The day ended with a BBQ , too much to drink, a bar, shenanigans, and a little jazz music. It was wonderfully fun and wonderfully American.
America rules!
